Do you know the different types of computer ?
A computer is one of the most brilliant inventions of mankind. Thanks to the computer technology, we were able to achieve an efficient storage and processing of data; we could rest our brains by employing computer memory capacities for storage of the information. There are a lot of terms used to describe computer. Most of these words imply the size, expected use or capability of the computer. While the term computer can apply to virtually any device that has a microprocessor in it, most people think of a computer as a device that receives input from the user through a mouse or keyboard, processes it in some fashion and displays the result on a screen.
Here 10 types of computer :
1. The personal computer (PC)
Personal computer is any general-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and original sales price make it useful for individuals, and which is intended to be operated directly by an end-user with no intervening computer operator. It is defines a computer designed for general use by a single person. PCs were first known as microcomputers because they were a complete computer but built on a smaller scale than the huge systems in use by most businesses.
2. Laptop.
Laptop also called a notebook is a personal computer for mobile use.A laptop is a portable computers that integrates most of the typical components of a desktop computer, including a display, a keyboard, a pointing device (a touchpad, also known as a trackpad, and/or a pointing stick) and speakers into a single unit. A laptop is powered by mains electricity via an AC adapter, and can be used away from an outlet using a rechargeable battery.
3. Netbook is smaller and cheaper than laptops, ultra-portable computer that are even smaller than traditional laptops. Netbooks are a category of small, lightweight, legacy-free, and inexpensive laptop computers. At their inception in late 2007 as smaller notebooks optimized for low weight and low cost— netbooks omitted certain features (e.g., the optical drive), featured smaller screens and keyboards, and offered reduced computing power when compared to a full-sized laptop. Over the course of their evolution, netbooks have ranged in size from below 5″ screen diagonal to 12″. A typical weight is 1 kg (2–3 pounds). However, netbooks’ internal components are less powerful than those in regular laptops.
4. PDA.
Personal digital assistant, an electronic device which can include some of the functions of a computer, a cellphone, a music player, and a camera. Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) are tightly integrated computer that often use flash memory instead of a hard drive for storage. These computers usually do not have keyboards but rely on touchscreen technology for user input. PDAs are typically smaller than a paperback novel, very lightweight with a reasonable battery life. A slightly larger and heavier version of the PDA is the handheld computer.
5. Tablet-Computer.
A tablet computer, or simply tablet, is a complete mobile computer, larger than a mobile phone or personal digital assistant, integrated into a flat touch screen and primarily operated by touching the screen. It often uses an onscreen virtual keyboard or a digital pen rather than a physical keyboard.
6: Workstation-Computer.
Another type of computer is a workstation. A workstation-computer is a high-end microcomputer designed for technical or scientific applications. Intended primarily to be used by one person at a time, they are commonly connected to a local area network and run multi-user operating systems. The term workstation has also been used to refer to a mainframe computer terminal or a PC connected to a network. A workstation is simply a desktop computer that has a more powerful processor, additional memory and enhanced capabilities for performing a special group of task, such as 3D Graphics or game development.
7. Server-Computer
Server-computer is a computer or series of computers, that link other computers or electronic devices together. They often provide essential services across a network, either to private users inside a large organization or to public users via the internet. For example, when you enter a query in a search engine, the query is sent from your computer over the internet to the servers that store all the relevant web pages. The results are sent back by the server to your computer. Servers usually have powerful processors, lots of memory and large hard drives
9. Super-Computer .
Super computer is a computer that is at the frontline of current processing capacity, particularly speed of calculation. This type of computer usually costs hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars. Although some super-computer are single computer systems, most are composed of multiple high performance computer working in parallel as a single system. The best known supercomputers are built by Cray Supercomputers.
10. Wearable Computer
The latest trend in computing is wearable computer. Wearable computer is a miniature electronic devices that are worn by the bearer under, with or on top of clothing. This class of wearable technology has been developed for general or special purpose information technologies and media development.Another feature is the ability to multi-task. It is not necessary to stop what you are doing to use the device; it is augmented into all other actions. These devices can be incorporated by the user to act like a prosthetic. It can therefore be an extension of the user’s mind and/or body.
