SEO Onpage  Optimization

In a previous post of mine, I showed you how to write SEO articles. This is in my opinion one of the most important on-page SEO factors. But, no matter how delicious your content is, if there is nobody to read it you can’t generate profit from it. Traffic is the lifeblood of your blog. In order to attract people, you must offer attractive information. Simple enough.

However, to get traffic onto your site, you have to think backwards. Where do people look when they need information? Yes, they search using search engines like google, yahoo and bing, to name a few more popular ones. So, to get these people on your blog, your blog needs to rank high on search result pages of these search engines. When these people search for information through the search engines and see your site among the top results, they will naturally click through to your blog!

The art of getting your blog or website onto high rankings on search result pages is called search engine optimization. It is a very complex, but that doesn’t stop us from learning simple yet effective techniques to conquer the search results for certain keywords.

SEO Onpage Optimization

SEO Onpage Optimization: Meta Tag Settings to write SEO articles.

Meta Tag Settings

Below is an example of phrase “SEO Onpage optimization” used in a Heading (<h1>) and Bold (<b>) Example:

SEO Onpage optimization

Notice the difference?

In the HTML Source, The search phrase “SEO Onpage optimization” Was placed between <h1> tags.

<H1>SEO Onpage optimization</H1> HTML Tags

In the second version, It was placed between bold tags.

<b>SEO Onpage optimization</b> HTML tags.

In the third version, it was placed between emphasize tags.

<em>SEO Onpage optimization</em> HTML tags.

For Search Engines Optimization (SEO) meta tags let the search engines know what your website/blog is all about. Something new bloggers need to realize about meta tag settings is to be very specific and to include a variety of things about your website/blog.

Meta tags include your meta title, meta description and your meta keywords for your web page or posts. Your meta are “invisible,” they are not visible on your page or posts. They are behind the scene techie stuff. Meta tags are the single most important “on-site” SEO factor. Meta tags should not be overlooked if you want to be found on Goggle or other search engines.

First, you have to pay attention to the title of your blog. Since you’re optimizing for “SEO Onpage”, you need to have that exact phrase in your blog title. For example, in this post : “SEO Onpage optimization” would work great. You can change the title of your blog in the Blogger control panel or the WordPress blog when you’re creating it. If you’re proficient with HTML, you can even do that on other blog engines.

Other than that, your page heading should also contain the term you’re optimizing for. The page heading is the bit of text in your code that is enclosed within the <h1> and </h1> tags. This is important as it tells the search engines what your page is about (in this case, “SEO Onpage optimization”). Since we’re posting a blog, the <h1> </h1> tags are usually the post titles, so remember to include the term there whenever relevant.

Always Combine Your Keywords In The Page Title!

When Google looks at our title it will see all 3 of our keywords only. Combining keywords to cut down on the total number of keywords displayed in the title is a great way to boost the strength of each individual keyword, which will have an immediate impact on your ranking.

Add <h1> header tags

Next we’ll need to add 1 <h1> header tag and place our most important keyword there.

The <h1> header tag should be as far towards the top left hand side of the page as possible. When Google reads a webpage, it views the text from the top left hand side of the page, and then follows down to the bottom right hand side of the page. So, it’s best to place your <h1> header tag on the top left hand or top/middle portion of your page

You can think of an <h1> header tag as a title for whatever content you have on your page. For example, the <h1> header tag of this chapter would have been:

” SEO Onpage optimization” and the html code used to create this title would look like this:

<h1>”SEO Onpage optimization factor “</h1>

Of course, I would have changed my lesson title to contain my main keyword if I was actually trying to optimize this page for Google.

Add <h2> header tags

Next, we’ll need to create an <h2> header tag. This can be thought of as a sub heading for our webpage. You should place your 2nd most important keyword in the <h2> header tag. The <h2> tag should be placed somewhere towards the top half of your webpage.

A good <h2> header tag for our example would be:

<h2>SEO Onpage optimization<h2>

Usually it’s best to place your primary keyword in your <h1> tags and your secondary keyword within the <h2> tags.

After we’ve done this, we need to actually create the content for our webpage. When writing the content, try to evenly sprinkle your main keywords throughout the copy.

Google will immediately see your website as search engine spam and you will not rank well. So, try to keep in mind that you’re creating your website for the eyes of REAL people. Try to mention each keyword in a natural way as you are writing, but be sure to include at least one of the keywords per 1-2 paragraphs, depending on how large your page is.

SEO Onpage optimization: Bolding, italicizing and underlining.

Once we’ve finished writing the copy, we should go through and bold, underline, or italicize some of the keywords only 1 time each, maximum. Only do 1 per keyword or it will hurt you more than it helps.

Properly include <alt> image tags. Next, add an alt image tag to the very top image of your webpage (This is usually your website’s header graphic). Use the <alt> image tag using the text “SEO Onpage optimization”. The html code used to add an <alt> image tag would look like this:

 <img src=”YourGraphic.jpg” width=”336″ height=”280″ alt=”">

One last bit, you should also sprinkle the word “SEO Onpage Optimazion”-as keyword in my posts whenever possible. The frequent occurrence of that phrase in your blog will hint the search engines that your blog is really relevant to that topic.

However, this is the most important bit of all. Always keep in mind that you’re writing for real life people who read your blog to obtain information, so it is very stupid to spam your blog with keywords! In fact, if you do that, the search engines will end up thinking you’re spamming and drop your ranking further down into oblivion. So keep in mind! Write for humans, not search engines! Never forget SEO Onpage Optimization.
