Apple‘s voice-recognition Siri is the intelligent personal assistant that helps you get things done just by using your voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, and more. But Siri isn’t like traditional voice recognition software that requires you to remember keywords and speak specific commands. Siri understands your natural speech, and it asks you questions if it needs more information to complete a task.
Siri uses the processing power of the dual-core A5 chip in iPhone 4S, and it uses 3G and Wi-Fi networks to communicate rapidly with Apple’s data centers. So it can quickly understand what you say and what you’re asking for, then quickly return a response. Siri had announced that their software would be available for BlackBerry and for Android-powered phones, but all development efforts for non-Apple platforms were cancelled after Apple’s purchase. Siri was originally introduced as an iOS application available in the App Store. Siri was acquired by Apple Inc. on April 28, 2010.
Siri Apps supported
Siri works with almost all the built-in apps on iPhone 4S. And it’s smart enough to figure out which apps to use to provide you with answers. It also uses Search and Location Services to help you with your requests. Here’s a list of apps and services that Siri works with worldwide:
- Siri can also assist you using these apps and services in the U.S. in English
- Maps and local search support will be available in additional countries in 2012.
Siri Languages Supports
Siri works exclusively on iPhone 4S. Siri understands and can speak the following languages: English (United States, United Kingdom, Australia) French and German. In 2012, Siri will support additional languages, including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Italian, and Spanish.
Siri can be enabled in any country, and you can use Siri in any of these languages in other countries and you can choose to speak to it in English, French, or German. However, Siri is designed to recognize the specific accents and dialects of the supported countries listed above. Since every language has its own accents and dialects, the accuracy rate will be higher for native speakers.
Siri : Set Your Info
If Siri knows who you are, it can use your information to help you. Your information is used for questions like “How do I get home?” or “What good restaurants are near work?
To make sure Siri knows who you are, select your contact information in: Settings > General > Siri > My Info.
Because Siri knows your current location and other locations like “home” “school” or “work,” it can remind you to do a certain task when you leave a location or arrive at a location. So if you tell Siri,“Remind me to call my wife when I leave the office,” Siri does just that.
How to Turn Off The Ability for Siri to use Your Location:
Go to Settings > Location Services and set the switch for Siri to Off.
Regardless of how Locations Services is set for Siri, information about your location is not tracked or stored outside the phone.
Dictation Funcion
iPhone 4S supports dictation in any app that has a keyboard. So instead of typing, you can speak and your words will be entered as text. To get benefits of dictation function in iPhone 4s, follow these steps :
Tap the microphone button on your keyboard and start talking.
When you’re finished, tap Done and your words will be turned into text. Dictation for each language is built into the keyboard for that language.
Siri Hack : H1 Siri, Jailbreak, Siri0us, Siri Server, Jailbreak Tweak
Siri integrated part of iOS 5, and available only on the iPhone 4S, launched. Apple publicly announced that it had no plans to support Siri on any of its older devices. Despite this, hackers were able to adapt Siri in previous iPhones. Its very funny. When tried asking Siri, the new iPhone 4S impressive assistant to install Cydia, the Jailbreak utility and got interesting response. iPhone 4S owner could check this out by yourself, and have a fun moment.
I’m sure a lot of people have heard quite a bit about this new Siri port called H1 Siri and just as I was I’m sure you’re incredibly excited. Currently all working Siri ports are proxy based. They rely on Apple Siri servers and iPhone 4S authentication token. The token expires every 24 hours. It’s a pain to use the proxy method to get your Siri authentication token from an iPhone 4S every 24 hours.
When the iPhone 4S jailbreak is out, there will helpfull to get authentication token from iPhone 4S. But remember, Apple will never make it easy for you. They can simply block your devices and the 4S if the token has been used in many devices.
Independent developers claim that they have ported Siri into the iPhone 4. However, some news sites suggest that the videos posted by the developers as “proof” only show the user interface of the Siri software, and not the voice commands, implying that developers haven’t been able to port the application with full functionality. So you will not get a perfect Siri unless Apple allows you to.
However, new reports from January 2012 suggest that independent developers have succeeded in porting Siri into the iPhone 4, iPod Touch, and iPad. Siriport.ru, a Russia based team, have demonstrated Siri working as intended on the iPhone 4, iPod Touch, and iPad, communicating with the Apple servers.
The guys known as CD-Team developed a tweak called “H1Siri” which brings Siri’s GUI and Siri connectivity to the team’s own servers. Siri will not be connected to Apple’s servers, instead, it will be connected to private servers.
However, after successful installation and several reboots, it did work for 5 minutes then stopped working again. I know when I can’t connect to the sever doesn’t means others can’t as well. Some people also installed h1siri and succeeded to connect to the sever, I don’t know about you. I heard that the H1Siri doesn’t connect because they are getting a bigger server and the developers behind this tweak are going to move their servers for better efficiency works with everyone. It may work with you and it may don’t.
Good news, another site reported that French Engineering firm, Applidium managed to crack Siri’s security protocol that kept Siri limited to the iPhone 4S. With Siri’s security protocol now cracked, this allowed developer @Plamoni to create a 3rd party proxy Server for Siri to communicate with. The developer notes that this 3rd party proxy server makes it easy for other developers to create custom Siri handlers to allow Siri to do just about anything. To prove his point the developer has uploaded a video demonstration to YouTube of his proxy server in action. In this video demonstration, Siri being able to control and interact with a WiFi thermostat. This 3rd party proxy server for Siri is extremely useful and has an unlimited amount of possibilities. In this case, you actually do not need to Jailbreak your iPhone4S to take advantage of it!
Personally, I’d pay upwards of $30 for a app/program like that. I’d love to see Siri ported. Maybe somebody will create a development (Jailbroken or otherwise) that is just like or better than H1Siri.
Maybe should wait for a better developed Siri hack. Let us know. Wait and see what happens.
