The Samsung Galaxy Tab is an Android-based tablet computer produced by Samsung introduced on 2 September 2010 at the IFA in Berlin. Samsung first showed a new Galaxy Tab model in January 2011 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The original model features a bigger 10.1″ HD display with a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 SoC, running Google’s Android Honeycomb operating system, and was to be released in partnership with Vodafone. It was set for a US release in March 2011 and a European release in April.
However, after the iPad 2 release, some specifications were described as “inadequate” by Lee Don-Joo, Samsung’s CEO, pointing to a possible model review or a rethink of their market strategy. It belongs to the next generation of the Samsung Galaxy Tab series, which consists of two 10.1″ models and the 8.9″ model. With the Galaxy Tab, Samsung may have hit on the secret formula, the iPad-killing feature that has until now eluded the best minds in consumer electronics. Expect to see this thing fly off the shelves when it launches (possibly) later this year. The seven-inch Galaxy Tab failed. The 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab fared no better. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 Less screen size than an iPad, and less portable than an e-reader.
New Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 The Advantages
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 screen has a 1280 × 800 resolution which is protected by Gorilla Glass, the unit is 8.6mm thick and weighs a stout 455 grams. It’s $30 cheaper than the iPad 2. It includes a 3-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel user-facing camera for imaging and video chatting.
The new Tab 8.9 will be stuffed full of Samsung entertainment software, including its Readers Hub, Music Hub, Media Hub, and Social Hub. These tools and portals give users wide access to content, ranging from eBooks to TV shows, movies, and music. It can record video in 1080p HD and playback HD content
The Galaxy Tab 8.9 is powered by a dual-core T250S processor running at 1.5GHz, so you can enjoy the built-in Adobe Flash plugin stuttering along at a slightly higher frame rate than usual. Flash is included–a major plus–which means all websites that need Flash work fine in the supplied browser.
The other advatages of Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is LTE, for connecting to all the 4G networks that blanket the world today. As of November 20, AT&T’s LTE network will be available in 15 U.S. markets, including: Atlanta and Athens, Ga., Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Charlotte, N.C., Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, San Antonio, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C.
Efficient battery life : Expect about eight to nine hours of power from the 6100 mAh battery. That’s good enough for some occasional web browsing, media streaming, and Angry Birds action. A full charge will get you through the entire day, while moderate use can pull up to 10+ hours.
This Android 3.0 Honeycomb-powered tablet offers a good compromise between portability and comfortable viewing. It’s tidy: the only physical buttons on the unit are the power switch and the volume rocker, with all other controls are on-screen.
New Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 The Disadvantages
The Galaxy Tab 8.9 does little to set itself a part from the 10.1, bearing the exact troubles of the last model such as wi-fi-only connection and no extra slots or ports. So no wi-fi, no online connection.
Another Disadvantages of The New Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9
The Galaxy Tab 8.9 device’s design was to eschew a conventional USB connector for a proprietary one . You have to use Samsung’s own proprietary cable to charge the tablet, or to connect it to a PC. Even worse the device doesn’t charge when connected to a PC. You can only charge it with the supplied AC adapter. There isn’t even an integrated SD card slot. The only way to read a media card is via a separately-sold reader that attaches to the charger/USB-connector port. When plugged into a Windows PC, the tablet mounts as a media player, although it won’t display its contents if it’s locked with a password or PIN.
Disadvantages Of Honeycomb:
Not much wrong with the hardware of Galaxy Tab. The biggest problem is with Honeycomb. iPad currently has 65,000 apps running for it, compared to only 100 for Honeycomb. The user interface has also been described by Global Equities Research as ‘unstable and poorly designed’. What does this leave you with? Beautiful hardware, but with not much to do on it. In my opinion, some consumer would wait for the next generation of Galaxy Tab when it matures into a better product. In the meantime, the Motorola Xoom or iPad 2 blow this thing away. Motorola Xoom at least has way better camera, and still leads on spec, and the iPad 2 for user experience. .
Disadvantages of the New Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9-Price
It’s $30 cheaper than the iPad 2, Ok but aside from a smaller form factor, and touchscreen, the manufacturer loaded the Tab 8.9 with the same hardware and features found on the 10.1 model and it’s also only $30 cheaper than the bigger version. Some might be compelled to drop the extra cash for a bigger screen or pick up Apple’s tablet. And with the Kindle Fire tackling a $200 price tag, it’s a tough sell for tablet seekers.
