Computer technology is advancing at rapid rates.

More and more information is found and processed every day in human life. Information has been produced in the last thirty years than in the previous five thousand. This information that is rapidly becoming available has produced many benefits to the human race. It has been stated that the computer has opened up new dimensions in communication, architectural design, engineering, medical analysis, and even artistic expression. People thousands of miles away can do more than simply talk over the phone, but see each other while talking on their computer screens. Humans are even considering education through computers. Students would not have to leave the comfort of their own home to go to school. Students would be taught wherever they might be giving them access to centralized information networks. This would open up new doors for schooling and revolutionize the education system. Tasks for almost every profession and area of interest are done faster, more efficiently, and with less effort on computers.

Throughout history, human beings have struggled to achieve control over nature. The twentieth century is full of amazing discoveries and advancements in science. Both the computer revolution and medical research have benefited society in enormous ways.  Now, with all of the scientific advances in computers and medicine, humans have come closer than ever to reaching this ultimate goal. However, along with the benefits of these new and rapidly increasing scientific advancements come moral, ethical and social issues that need to be given consideration.

As good as all of these advancements may seem, they do have some negative aspects in human life. First of all, individual rights to privacy are put in jeopardy. We do not have adequate national public policy privacy protection Information is found on almost any matter of a given individualís life with the touch of a few computer keys. Human beings must consider whether it is better to have all the technology or to secure their individual right to privacy.

Due to the fact that people now have the ability to access all kinds of information, humans must question the validity of this information, for example, provides a way for people to access immense amounts of information. However, not all of the information found on the internet is valid and true.

The notion of education through computers also raises questions. School does more than simply provide children with an education. It teaches them valuable social and communication skills and encourages involvement in activities. Although education through computers would have benefits such as convenience and allowing individuals to learn at their own rates, it would also ignore important social life issues.

With new technology, many things can be done within the comfort of one’s own home. Further advancements will only accentuate this. It will change work life through virtual offices and work at home; and it will diminish the need to transport our bodies for work or routine tasks such as visiting and shopping. Humans must consider whether all of these changes are for the good of society.

One field raising a lot of controversy is genetics. Scientists have made amazing discoveries in the field. Artificial insemination is now possible for some parents unable to have children naturally. Parents are given the option of choosing the sex of the baby. Soon, parents may even be able to choose characteristics such as eye and hair color for their children. Another major advancement being worked on is the ability to cure or stop genetic diseases.

Another aspect of these computer advances that humans must question is programming computers to think like human minds. Although computers can only do what humans program them to do, thought still must be given to whether or not computers are capable of human thinking and what the effects would be on society. As stated earlier, this would make tasks somewhat easier and effortless; however, it would also have extreme effects on society. Humans would be needed less and less in the employment field as computers would take over. Also, computer systems crash and make errors quite commonly. It is scary to trust them in making decisions for the human race.

Both the computer revolution and medical research have benefited society in enormous ways.  It has given humans more and more control over nature. Humans life have come closer to achieving this ultimate control over nature than in any other time in history. Overall, the computer revolution is causing change in all aspects of human life. Humans must decide whether any of these advancements are ethical and what effects they could and do have on society life.
